Where Burglars Hit Most in Bucktown and Wicker Park (Heat Map)

With almost 250 burglaries in the past six months, this heat map shows what parts of Bucktown and Wicker Park are most likely to be hit by a criminal.

Police the 19th District may say burglaries and robberies are their biggest issues, but in the small boundaries of Bucktown and Wicker Park in the 14th District, burglaries exceeded those of Lake View.

In the past six months, the police beats covering Bucktown and Wicker Park saw 242 burglaries, five more than the same period of time in Lake View, Chicago’s second largest community.

During that time, Bucktown and Wicker Park police also counted 89 robberies, accounting for just less than half of the police district’s 200 robberies over those six months.

Based on the interactive map, the most popular places in town for burglars are near the intersection of Division Street and Damen Avenue, around Wood and Division streets and up near Armitage and Wolcott avenues. That’s combined with other hot spots like North and Bell avenues.

  • Keep all shades and curtains closed at night.
  • Stop all deliveries when leaving town.
  • Keep an inventory of valuable items and put license numbers on expensive items
  • Play a radio or TV when away from home.
  • Maintain good outdoor lighting.
