Five Dogs Locked in Car While Owner Partied for Hours In Bucktown Bar: Cops

Police say dogs did not have heat, food or water. Owner charged under state Humane Care for Animals Act.

A woman who professes to love dogs left her’s inside a car for hours on Friday while she attended a relative’s gig at a Bucktown bar, police said.

Chicago police found five small dogs locked in a parked car in the 2400 block of North Artesian Avenue, after someone called police around 10:30 p.m. the Chicago Tribune reported.

The caller said she saw a woman park the car around 4:30 p.m. and walk away. Police said the dogs were left without heat, food or water.

The fire department had to help police force the car door open. The dogs were taken to Chicago Animal Care and Control.

Maureen Gaffney, 51, was arrested when police found her later on Fullerton Avenue. She was charged under “owners duties” section of the state Humane Care for Animals act, reports said.

Gaffney reportedly said that she “takes her dogs everywhere” and didn’t think it was too cold to leave them in the car while she went to watch a relative’s band perform at Quenchers.

Police apparently didn’t agree and arrested her.

Gaffney, of the 2600 block of West North Avenue is due in court on May 1.
