Bloomingdale Trail Construction Schedule, Road Closures Detailed
The 606 is moving forward, and officials are detailing which bridges and roads will be repaired first, shutting down streets over the next year.
Whether you prefer to call it the Bloomingdale Trail or The 606, major construction will soon be under way on the former railroad tracks to make structural improvements, and traffic will be affected.
Planned for the top of an abandoned, 2.7-mile railroad viaduct between Ashland and Ridgeway avenues, the $91 million linear park will be managed by the Chicago Park District through a $1 lease with the city of Chicago, which acquired the viaduct from the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Ald. Scott Waguespack (32nd) recently released details surrounding the construction process, and it details which bridges will be repaired first, ultimately shutting down the road for three weeks.

Construction on bridges over major arteries like Ashland and Western avenues will take place in stages, the timeline outlines. That means crews will only close the streets to work on them from 10 p.m. on Fridays to 5 a.m. on Mondays. All other bridge closures should not exceed 21 days.
Starting this summer, the bridge repair will take place over two phases. All the bridge repairs—besides the Milwaukee Avenue bridge—should be completed by June 1 of 2014. That’s followed by completing the concrete path and Milwaukee Avenue bridge by mid-September, and resurfacing Bloomingdale Avenue on October 27.
